The College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur, commenced a two-day All India Undergraduate Academic Convention in Biotechnology today, on August 25, 2023. The event, organized under the visionary leadership of University Vice Chancellor, Dr. D.R. Singh, aims to foster collaboration between undergraduate students and experts from various fields of biotechnology. Recognizing the students as the harbingers of India's future, the convention seeks to impart a clear understanding of the benefits and diverse opportunities presented by biotechnology in higher education, startups, and beyond.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of distinguished personalities who have made significant contributions to the field of biotechnology. Dr. Neeraja Prabhakar, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of SKLTSHU, Siddipet, Telangana, graced the event as the chief guest. Dr. A.K. Shasany, Director of CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow, and Dr. Arvind Kumar, Deputy Director General (R) of ICRISAT, Hyderabad, were esteemed guests of honor.
The inaugural session was marked by the traditional welcome of the guests with floral bouquets, shawls, and mementos, followed by a ceremonial offering of water (jal arpan) by all the dignitaries. Dr. N. Chattopadhyaya, Convener of the convention, delivered the welcome address, expressing his enthusiasm for the platform's potential to nurture young talent. Dr. Dharmasheela Thakur, the Organizing Secretary, elaborated on the convention's objectives and structure.
The event showcased a 'safarnama' (journey) of Bihar Agricultural University's recent accomplishments, highlighting the institution's dedication to progress. Dr. A.K. Shasany and Dr. Arvind Kumar, the guests of honor, delivered insightful addresses, shedding light on the rapid advancements in biotechnology and the opportunities it presents.
A series of ceremonial inaugurations followed, including the launch of the College of Agricultural Biotechnology's website, the unveiling of a replica model of CABT, Sabour, and the inauguration of an E-newsletter of CABT, Sabour.
Dr. Neeraja Prabhakar, the chief guest, addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of academic gatherings in shaping young minds.
A pivotal moment of the ceremony was the release of the Souvenir-cum-Abstract Book of AIUGACB-2023.
Dr. D.R. Singh, the esteemed Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, delivered a thought-provoking Presidential Address that resonated deeply with the audience. His words, full with wisdom and experience, served as a guiding light for the attending students, igniting their aspirations for a prosperous and impactful journey ahead. His words not only underscored the significance of biotechnology but also instilled a sense of purpose and determination in the young minds present.
Following the enlightening address, the Director Research, BAU, Sabour, took the stage to convey heartfelt appreciation to all participants, and contributors. This gesture of gratitude not only acknowledged the collaborative efforts that made the convention possible but also highlighted the importance of collective endeavor in fostering growth and innovation.
Following the inauguration, two technical sessions were conducted. The first session focused on plant biotechnology, chaired by the guest of honour, Dr. Arvind Kumar and co-chaired by Dr. K. Kathiravan from the University of Madras, Chennai. This session featured keynote lectures by Dr. A.K. Shasany, Dr. Arvind Kumar, and Dr. Siddharth Tiwari from NABI, Mohali, followed by interactive discussions and 14 oral presentations by participants on various plant biotechnology topics.
The second technical session explored animal biotechnology, stem cell research, drug delivery, and cancer research. Chaired by Dr. Vinod Kumar Nigam from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, and co-chaired by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Prof. (Animal husbandry) at BAU, Sabour, this session included keynote lectures by Dr. Ashok Kumar from AIIMS, Bhopal, and Dr. Rizwan ul Haque from Central University of South Bihar, Gaya. The session concluded with interactions and five oral presentations by participants.
Both technical sessions played a crucial role in expanding the horizons of students' knowledge, providing them with valuable insights and in-depth understanding. Through engaging discussions and informative presentations, participants had the opportunity to delve into the intricate realms of their chosen subjects within biotechnology.
Furthermore, these sessions went beyond the individual impact by contributing to the broader agricultural community. By sharing the latest research, advancements, and perspectives, the conventions sparked collaborative thinking and innovation. The knowledge gained and connections formed during these sessions are expected to ripple through the community, influencing research directions, practical applications, and overall progress in the field of biotechnology and agriculture.
