Brief Biodata
Born on 15th June 1963 at Galivaripalle, Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, Dr. K. Sathyanarayana obtained his B.Sc. (1983) and M.Sc. (1985) degree from Bangalore University, Bangalore and Ph.D. (2004) from Mysore University, Mysore, Karnataka. He has served as Scientist at various field units and also at Board Secretariat, Central Silk Board. Besides as the Director, Central Tasar Research and Training Institute (2021-23), Ranchi, Jharkhand with additional charge as the Director, Basic Tasar Silkworm Seed Organization (2021-22). Dr. K. Sathyanarayana has over three and half decades of experience in the field of silkworm research, extension & training. Under his leadership he has coordinated with several national and international collaborations and initiatives to his kitty. He also served as Chairman/ Member Convener/ Member for many research groups and Committees. He has 5 patents to his credit besides commercializing 3 patented technologies through NRDC. He has also pioneered many initiatives in the sericulture sector like raising Block plantations of Tasar host plants, Tasar Vikas Samities, Community managed Basic Seed Production Units, establishment of Common Facility Centres for storage of rearing inputs and training, establishment of Cocoon Banks and reeler/ Spinner Collectives for local value addition and popularised registration of over 3000 seed & seed cocoon producers under CSB’s Central Seed Act, besides seri byproduct utilisation. He has mobilized funds of more than 1496 crores for the betterment of the silk growers during his period of service. He has received numerous awards including Times of India Social Impact Award (2013), successful project management of MKSP Project in Jharkhand by CSB (2017 & 2018), Best CSB Scientist award (2020). He is also an Accredited Trainer by EDII, Ahmedabad & National Resource Person by NIRD&PR. He has published more than 170 articles including research papers, review articles, book chapters and popular articles and technical bulletins. He has significantly contributed in preparing the vision for National Silk Policy 2020 for overall policy for silk production till 2030, Roadmap for Sericulture development in India- Vision 2020 for Ministry of Textiles.
Dr. Kalam Agricultural College, Kishanganj has been established on 10th August, 2015 by the order of the Govt. of Bihar. After foundation Bihar government decided to rename the Kishanganj Agriculture College in the remembrance of the former Hon’ble President Late Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. Hon’ble Chief Minister Bihar said "It was Dr. Kalam who suggested the inclusive growth model for Bihar which is rich in cultural heritage and I am happy that working on his suggestions for development has taken Bihar to a new height over the last 10 years”. Moreover, Kishanganj is known for good quality tea production apart from pineapple and jute and the first district in Bihar to produce tea at large scale. D.K.A.C., Kishanganj always in readiness to serve the farmers and concerned officers Zone – II of the State.
The present intake capacity of the college is 60 students/ year in B.Sc. (Ag.) course. The degree programme is of four years duration and divided into eight semesters. The grading system of student is based on credit point average followed 10 point scale. The examination system is comprised of 50% internal and 50% external evaluation. The credit requirement for the B.Sc. (Ag.) degree is 175 credit hours including 20 credit hours is of Rural Agricultural work Experience (RAWE) Programme conducted in the seventh semester of the degree programme.
