Cultural Society:

‘A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people’ ~ Mahatma Gandhi

In Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour (HQ), the Cultural Society plays an important role in the organization of various cultural activities in the university. It also encourages the participation of students in various cultural programmes outside the university.

Motto :

The Cultural Society has been established with the motto of promoting cultural values and enhancing an aesthetic bent of mind among students.

Aims :

The aim of the Cultural Society is to encourage students to participate in various cultural activities which would help them enhancing their individual qualities.

Objectives :

The Cultural Society aims at the wholesome development of the students as complete human beings. It also aims at promoting and organizing multifarious cultural activities like the organization of workshops, competitions and programmes (singing, dancing, recitation, drama, fine arts etc).
The society constantly encourages students to participate in all the activities with full vigour and excitement which helps in creating a cultural environment in the university head quarter.

How the society works :

  1. The society works under the Directorate of Students’ Welfare and maintains liaison with the cultural teams of different colleges to organise different intra and inter-college events. Apart from the events, the society looks after the promotion of day-to-day cultural activities.
  2. Apart from organising special events, the society promotes the cultural improvement of the students by organising time-to-time seminars, workshops, training, lectures, etc. The society also conducts surveys to identify interested students who want music/dance/dramatics/fine arts/literary lessons and taking initiatives in arranging for the same.
  3. A dedicated hall with all the required facilities has been identified for round the year rehearsal of the students.

The cultural society (HQ), in addition to the core committee, is having following 5 sub-committees for year round organization of cultural events.

a. Music sub-committee:
This sub-committee takes care of all the music events like solo song, group song, folk song, semi-classical, western, regional songs, all kinds of instrumental music (percussion and non-percussion), etc.

b. Dance sub-committee:
This sub-committee takes care of all the dance events like solo dance, group dance, folk dance, regional dance, western dance, Indian classical dances, other dance forms, etc.

c. Literary sub-committee:
This sub-committee takes care of all the literary events, like debate, elocution, quiz, any form of creative writing, etc. The sub-committee also ensures the publication of annual magazine of the University.

d. Fine arts sub-committee:
This sub-committee takes care of all the fine arts events like painting, poster making, cartooning, rangoli, collage, clay modelling, etc.

e. Dramatics sub-committee:
This sub-committee takes care of all the dramatic events like one act play, mono acting, skit, mime, recitation, etc.

01 Dr. Sambhu Prasad Dr. Shambhu Prasad has completed Master’s Degree from Dr. RPCAU, Pusa, Bihar and Doctorate from JNKVV, Jabalpur, Madhya Prasad. He has joined Bihar Agricultural University in the department of Agronomy in 2007. He has the special competency in writing Poetry, Gajals and Singing. He had actively participated in dramatic events, been the Secretary, Cultural Society during his academic carrier. He organized various Literacy and Fine Art Competition. At present time, he is serving as Academic In-charge, Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour. As President, Cultural Society, BAU, Sabour, he conducted so many cultural activities at College as well as University level since last 3 years. As Nodal officer in Agri-Unifest, 2019, He conducted and accompanied students in East Zone Inter University Youth Festival, held at IGKV, Raipur, Chattishgarh and as Nodal Officer, Educational Tour, he conducted All India Educational Tour of BSc students in the year 2017. In music sub-committee, he is always motivating students towards Folk Songs, Distinctive Regional Music and Indian Classical Music.
02 Dr. Suborna Roy Choudhury Dr. Suborna Roy Choudhury, PhD is an academician and Double Gold Medalist from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal. She has joined Bihar Agricultural University in the Department of Agronomy in 2012. She contributes as Vice-President of Cultural society since 2012. She is trained in classical dance, Ravindra Nitya and recitation. In Dance sub-committee, she instructs and motivates the students in different dance forms like classical, folk etc., incorporating elements of technique, performance and choreography in dancing. Dr. Choudhury is recipient of different awards in Audio Drama, Mono Acting, Recitation and Script writing. She has a special interest in painting, rangoli, collage making and action modelling.
03 Dr. Seema Dr. Seema, has completed PhD from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture &Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. She joined Bihar Agricultural University in the Department of Agronomy, BAU, Sabour in 2015.She has actively participated in different cultural events (dancing and Rangoli making) during post-graduation. In Dance sub-committee she likes to share her knowledge and thoughtswith students related to drama, dance as well as other cultural events. She has accompanied students with her ideas in debate and other programme during Agri-Unifest. She has acted as member in different cultural events for better performance ofstudents in other college and universities.
04 Dr. Tirthartha Chattopadhyay Dr. Tirthartha Chattopadhyay has completed post-graduation (M.Sc. Agriculture in Genetics) from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal and has obtained Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, West Bengal. He has joined Bihar Agricultural University in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics in 2012. He is trained in percussion (Tabla) and non-percussion (Mohanveena) category of Indian Classical Music. He has represented BCKV multiple times in East Zone Inter University Youth Festival. In music sub-committee, he is involved in motivating students towards Indian Classical Music and organising different forms of song, instrumental music, etc. Apart from music, his cultural activities include dramatics, poster making, clay modeling and different literary activities.
05 Dr. Tarak Nath Goswami Dr Tarak Nath Goswami, has obtained Ph.D. from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal. He has joined Bihar Agricultural University in the Department of Entomology in 2012. He has contributed as President of Literary Society, Bihar Agricultural University during last five years. He is trained in drawing, painting and pencil sketching. He is passionate about singing, playing harmonica and tabla. He has a special competence in drama and script writing. In Fine arts sub-committee, he instructs students in working in different drawing, painting and colouring techniques and encourage them to express themselves artistically.
